Purpose

Recruit, hire, train and help retain qualified staff for Tribal Government operations. As well as provide personnel services that meet departmental needs in a manner consistent with North Fork Rancheria priorities and Native Preference goals.

TANF Transportation Specialist

JOB SUMMARY

 Under the supervision of the NFRTT Executive Assistant, the Transportation Specialist provides safe, reliable, and timely transportation services to TANF eligible clients and employees by operating and properly maintaining TANF vehicles assigned in support of those services.
 The Transportation Specialist classification is an “at-will” employee.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 Operates van, bus, or passenger vehicle safely and efficiently.
 Develop a schedule for regularly scheduled routes.
 Respond to requests from management for unscheduled pick-ups and drop-offs.
 Assist passengers in boarding and exiting vehicle.
 Transmit and receives over two-way radio system.
 Monitor traffic and weather conditions and notifies dispatch of potential problems.
 Reports accidents or other safety situations to TANF Client Programs Supervisor.
 Inspect exterior and interior of vehicle at beginning of each shift for properly operating headlights, turn signals, brake lights, interior courtesy lamps, air-conditioning or heating warning lamps, mirror adjustment, properly inflated tires, windshield wipers, vehicle damage, etc.
 Accurately complete a MVIR (Monthly Vehicle Inspection Report) on a weekly basis.
 Schedule regular vehicle maintenance and ensure arrangements for repair of identified problems.
 Responsible for ensuring inside and outside of vehicle are properly cleaned and fueled on an ongoing basis. Keeps interior of vehicle neat and orderly.
 Accurately complete driver trip sheet for each vehicle driven with information including vehicle license plate number, number of passengers, pick-up and drop-off times, mileage, destinations, etc.
 Learn and provide participants, guest and passengers with appropriate information regarding transportation services within the service areas.
 Treat all participants, guests, staff and other persons in a courteous, friendly and professional manner.
 Meet all dress codes, grooming standards and personnel policies as set forth by NFR.
 Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
 Ability to read and understand maps and use map software to obtain directions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A High School Diploma, GED Equivalency or California High School Proficiency.
Three (3) years directly related work experience. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
Some school bus, motor coach, or large vehicle experience preferred.

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
 Must be able to successfully perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
 Must be able to communicate by telephone, two-way radio and in person in clear fluent English in a courteous, friendly and professional manner with participants, children, guests, co-workers and other persons.
 Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situation.
 Must possess a valid California Class “B” or Class “A” Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a Passenger “P” endorsement as required by law.
 Must have a satisfactory driving record with a minimum of 3 years driving experience in the United States and provide a DMV printout.
 Must be able to legally drive in the state of California in compliance with all driving regulations. The individual selected must be insurable by the Tribe’s insurer and therefore must have a driving record and other qualifications that fulfill the prerequisites to facilitate the insurability requirements. If the individual selected is from out of state, the individual must comply with California driving regulations regarding time limits and other requirements for acquiring a California Driver’s License while at all times maintaining the ability to legally drive in California.
 Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background check.
 Must have the ability to work with people from diverse cultures, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds with knowledge of Native communities and possess sensitivity to Native needs.
 Confidentiality: Incumbent must be able to respect and adhere to the most rigid and strict rules of the employer/tribal member/public citizen practice of confidentiality. Violation of this major employment requirement could lead to immediate dismissal.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to sustain a work load consisting of exerting 20 to 50 or more pounds of force occasionally, and/or 12 to 40 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than 0 to 10 pounds of force consistently (occurring 2/3 of the time) to move objects.
